STUDENT LIFE
Experience The Difference
ATHLETICS
Our athletics programs are designed to develop character and integrity in our students. We believe the practice of biblical principles in the framework of athletic competition will create the discipline needed to live a successful life for Christ. With 25 high school and middle school sports teams, DCA students have ample opportunities to benefit from participation in athletic competitions.
-
Calvary athletics helps to fulfill the mission of the school by teaching the Christian way of competing expressed through our core vision for athletics:
Play for God’s glory
Be leaders on campus and in our community
Have fun, play smart, play hard
Overcome adversity with Christ-likeness
Relentlessly pursue righteousness
Develop a love and desire to please God
Work hard
Serve others
Respect authority
The Calvary Athletic Department acknowledges that God is the priority in our school, followed by family, academics, and finally, athletics. When this order is followed, it will result in student-athletes who are balanced spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Since Calvary athletes are representatives of their team, their school, their community, and more importantly, God, Calvary athletics is committed to developing each individual’s character and self–esteem. In addition, a proper perspective on winning and losing consistent with glorifying God is maintained. Calvary athletes will be humble in victory, and courageous in defeat. Winning is defined as reaching the maximum potential by giving great effort as an individual, and as a team. Individually, the DCA athletic department wants the athletes to have the mindset of constant improvement of their game and be mentally tough. As a result, maximum effort is given to training and preparation that leads to as much individual accomplishment as God will allow.
FINE ARTS
Through the Arts, students develop communication skills that incorporate creativity and self-expression that will serve them well beyond the classroom. From music and art time in elementary school to a variety of creative areas of study in Secondary school, Denton Calvary offers students the opportunity develop their talents and skills while creating art that glorifies God and blesses those who experience it.

PERFORMING ARTS
The DCA Drama Club performs two productions each year, a one-act play that they perform in the TAPPS Competition as well as for the DCA community and a full-length production that is one of the highlights of the school year. Students may opt to develop their acting skills on stage or take part in a behind-the-scenes role such as set or costume design.
CLUBS & ACTIVITIES
Student activities, including field trips, student government, a HOUSE system, class retreats and clubs, not only provide students with forums to practice leadership skills, explore talents and develop deeper friendships, the also provide the “fun factor” that motivates students to work hard on their academics. Since many of these activities take place off-campus, they also allow our students to be a light for Christ in the greater Denton community.
-
The House System was established in boarding schools in British Commonwealth countries. Even when boarding schools decreased in availability, the house system continued to flourish and can now be found in schools and colleges across the world.
In the fall of 2017, Denton Calvary chose to incorporate the House System into our culture as yet another means of fostering leadership in our students. Essentially another form of student government, the House system creates opportunities for leadership as well as inter-grade relationships within each House. Where student council is horizontal leadership, Houses practice vertical leadership. Houses cooperate with one another in service projects and chapels, while competing against each other in areas of academics and athletics. The House System is another practical way to achieve DCA’s mission of training students to have a life-long love of learning, discovery and service.
The eight DCA houses are named after David’s Mighty Men. New secondary students and incoming 5th grade students are inducted into their House each Fall. Students meet with their Houses and faculty leaders periodically during a chapel period and also compete at various times including House Game Day in October.
